Inspired
to politics as a youth, Dan Boren has built an impressive
record as a strong proponent for Oklahomans and
as an advocate for responsive, responsible government.
Boren was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives
at age 29 after defeating an eight-year incumbent,
one of the youngest non-incumbents to be elected
in 2002. Following his election, he was elected
as the incoming Caucus Chairman by his fellow House
Democrats - the first freshman state lawmaker to
ever receive this honor.
As a member of the State House leadership team,
Boren has focused on bringing jobs and economic
opportunities to his district. Working hand in hand
with Governor Brad Henry, Boren fought to protect
economic assistance for Oklahoma's rural communities
by saving the Rural Economic Action Plan from budget
cuts. He also fought to spare rural schools from
crippling budget blows by serving as the primary
co-author of legislation that infused much needed
dollars into Oklahoma's schools without raising
taxes.
Prior to his career in public service, Boren served
as the President and CEO of the Seminole State College
Educational Foundation. Boren worked as a senior
aide at the Oklahoma Corporation Commission and
held staff positions for former U.S. Congressman
Wes Watkins. Boren has experience in oil and banking
industries. He is involved in numerous organizations
and is an avid outdoorsman and hunter.
Dan Boren, 30, was born in Shawnee and has strong
ties to Eastern Oklahoma. He lives in Okfuskee County
in the rural community of Paden. In 1997 he earned
a B.S. in Economics. He went on to obtain an M.B.A.
from the University of Oklahoma. Boren and his sister,
Carrie, were born to former Governor and Senator
David L. Boren and the late Janna L. Robbins of
Madill. Boren's stepmother is Molly Shi Boren of
Ada. Boren's stepfather, John Robbins, lives in
Longview, TX. His grandfather, Lyle H. Boren, represented
southeastern Oklahomans in the U.S. Congress from
1937-47.
