Silver Stories:
Irwin Zahn |

About Irwin
When Irwin Zahn is asked about retirement,
he says, simply, "I think (retirement)
is a wrong concept." It's certainly nothing
that interests him as he continues to head
his electronics manufacturing company in his
80th year. Both Zahn and his venture have
come a long way since he purchased a small
industrial stapling machine company in the
1950's.
Zahn will tell you his big break came when
he began manufacturing the stops for zippers
during the blue jeans boom of the early 1960's.
Since then, the mission and name of his company
have changed but not his burning desire to
evolve and grow his own business. |

Irwin Zahn's Silver Story |

Irwin
Zahn had a dream a lot like yours:
to run his own business. He also had
a plan and saw that plan to fruition,
buying a small company in mid-town
Manhattan before the age of 30. From
meager business beginnings, Zahn took
that company from staples to zipper
stops to, finally, electronics. He
then took his venture and many of
its employees west, to San Diego,
where today he defies the odds, the
skeptics and his competition remaining
at the helm of his business success
story.

ask occasional questions about taking
products and services internationally,
how to finance expansion, and how technological
products are best sold into different
markets.

Monday, September 11, 2006--Should I
Look For Partners
Im probably the wrong guy to ask
that question to. Im a guy that
doesnt do well with partners.
I come from the Attila the Hun school
of management and what I like to do
is I enjoy listening to other people
having their idea, but ultimately I
think in a business, a business is not
a democracy, a business is more like
a republic where you get input from
different people and then make a decision
and make the decision and go with it.
