Cal Hobson says he is an ordinary
citizen but he has accomplished extraordinary
things for Oklahoma.
A fifth-generation Oklahoman, Cal was born in
Arizona where his father
was stationed as a fighter pilot during Word War
II. He grew up in Lexington and graduated as valedictorian
of his class.
Cal then attended
the University of Oklahoma on a R.O. T.C. scholarship
and supported himself by working 40 hours a week.
He graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant with highest
honors in 1968. After serving on active duty in
the Air Force during the Vietnam era, he returned
to Lexington and became their youngest mayor.
First elected to
the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 1978,
Cal was reelected 5 times before running for the
State Senate. Elected in 1990, he has served 4
terms in the Senate. In 2003, Cals fellow
Senators chose him to lead, electing him as the
President Pro Tempore.
During these years,
Cal continued his service in the Air National
Guard and was promoted to Colonel in 1994.
Cal and his wife, Elaine, have three grown
children; Matt Huff, Jack Hobson, and Aubrey Hammontree,
and two beautiful Oklahoma grandchildren, Tate
and Allison. Cal and Elaine live in Lexington
in the home his great-grandfather, Dr. Robert
E.Lee Thacker, built in 1917.
