New Year, New Shoes
January 2015 – Homeless Children Receive New Shoes with Assistance from Trees of Hope Guild Volunteers at “New Year, New Shoes” Event
The Trees of Hope Guild was again able to purchase new shoes and socks for all of the children at Star of Hope’s Randy and Kathy Tabor Transitional Living Center for Women and Families and the children at Star of Hope’s Women and Family Emergency Shelter at a special event in January due to a significant grant from Frost Bank and a friend of Trees of Hope. In total, over 260 pairs of shoes were purchased for the children at the Star of Hope facilities. The children were very excited to receive new shoes, and the guild members and volunteers from Frost Bank enjoyed assisting the children in their shoe selection both at Sports Authority and at the Emergency Shelter. All of the children were delighted to begin 2015 with new shoes. The Trees of Hope Guild and Frost Bank volunteers feel blessed to be able to be a part of providing new shoes and socks to the children at Star of Hope. We are very appreciative of the generous donors who made it possible.

Back to School in New Shoes
August 14 – What a great way to start off the school year, by helping all of the sweet children living at Star of Hope’s shelters shop for a new pair of shoes! The Trees of Hope Guild members and friends, and volunteers from Frost Bank helped 290 children choose the perfect pair of shoes that also had a perfect fit. And each of the children also received a package of new socks.
Funding for the new shoes was provided by the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation. Frost Bank provided great volunteers, funding for shoe gift cards for 10 of Star of Hope’s new college students, face painters and balloon artists, school supplies for the children to use at home, and refreshments from Chik fil a, Jamba Juice, and water bottles. Sports Authority Post Oak once again stepped up with a great discount and knowledgeable staff to assist with sizing and fitting.
Many of these children have never had anything new – much less experience shopping in a nice store to pick out their own pair of new shoes. Wearing new shoes and socks to begin the school year will allow these children to hold their heads high, ready for success.
