RITTENHOUSE INN CERTIFIED GREEN

The Rittenhouse Inn announced its certification by Travel Green Wisconsin as a tourism-related business which is reducing its environmental impact through operational and other improvements.

To achieve Travel Green certification, businesses must meet a variety of goals, including demonstration of how they encourage staff and customers to be environmentally aware, and how they reduce their solid waste and energy consumption.

"This is a bandwagon everyone needs to get on," say Rittenhouse innkeeper Jerry Phillips. "We can see the effects of global warming all around us, and we owe it to future generations to be more responsible. Fresh air and clean water are things we've taken for granted and, unfortunately, time is running out."

Travel Green Wisconsin is one of the first organizations of its kind and has received coverage in a variety of national media outlets, including CNN, the Chicago Tribune and The New York Times.

The Rittenhouse Inn scored high marks for emphasizing its local economy by supporting area farms. The Inn uses non-toxic biodegradable laundry and cleaning products and is focused on waste reduction, recycling and energy conservation.
