Grand
Opening of the Inns Moroccan
Suite
To
some, it may seem a bit strange
to find a Moroccan-themed room
in a Queen-Anne Victorian mansion.
However, according to Innkeeper
Jerry Phillips, this is very
typical of the Victorian time
period.
As
people of that time began
to acquire money, it was common
for them to travel the world,
especially places like Africa
and the Orient, says
Jerry. They loved the
exotic prints, tassles, and
rugs typical of these cultures.
Frequently they brought these
influences to America where
they often decorated one room
of their home in truly exotic
fashion.
It has
long been the Phillips
dream to create such a room
for the Rittenhouse Inn, and
the perfect opportunity arose
when, after 30-years of living
at the Inn, the couple bought
their own home.
Rittenhouse
XII, the Moroccan Suite, opened
for guests in August of 2007.
Originally the Innkeeper's
quarters, this magnificent
luxury suite features partial
lake views, a double-sided
gas fireplace, king-size Tempur
Pedic bed, private bath and
a two-person whirlpool tub.
This spacious third-floor
room is exquisitely decorated
with rich fabrics and comfortably
furnished. An intimate seating
area is framed by unique Moroccan-influenced
custom windows, antiques,
and artifacts.
Innkeeper
Jerry Phillips beams as he
describes the room to guests,
as he was the principal designer
of the suite. This room
reflects my Victorian impression
of the Moroccan-style.
