Capps Announces Hobson Endorsement
Snyder-Assistant
Majority Leader Senator Gilmer Capps (D-Snyder)
endorsed Senator Cal Hobson (D-Lexington) in his
bid for Lieutenant Governor last weekend.
"Cal Hobson is a great
man with a great future for the state of Oklahoma,"
Senator Capps said Friday. Hobson has served in
the legislature since 1978 and was chosen to lead
the Senate as President Pro Tempore in 2003.
Gilmer Capps has worked for
southwest Oklahoma in the Senate since 1971. Currently,
he is rapidly progressing toward the completion
of a working spaceport to enhance Oklahoma's aerospace
industry. In 2002 Capps received the American
Space Legislator of the Year Award for his support
of a commercial space industry in Oklahoma.
Senator Capps gives much of
the credit to Cal Hobson: "Cal deserves much
of the credit with the progress our state has
made in the aerospace industry. "We have
worked together on many projects for Oklahoma,
but I am most proud of the spaceport being built
here in Burns Flat."
As President Pro Tempore of
the Senate, Cal Hobson created the Aerospace,
Communication, and Technology Committee, assigning
Capps as Chairman and Mark Snyder (R-Edmond) as
Vice-chairman. The Oklahoma Space Industry Development
Authority (OSIDA) recently gained the FAA's approval
for operations, launching the first inland spaceport
in the nation.
On Cal Hobson's decision to
run for Lt. Governor, Capps said, "Cal has
too much talent to just go home. We have both
served our term limits, but Cal has so much more
he wants to do for Oklahomans."
Cal Hobson responded by thanking
Senator Capps for the endorsement. "Gilmer
and I have worked together for almost thirty years
and his support means a lot to me. Like Senator
Capps, I have represented many farmers and ranchers,
know their concerns, and will fight for them at
the state capitol," Hobson said.
The primary election for Lieutenant
Governor will be held July 25th.
