June Waggoner House of Hope
Star of Hope opened the June Waggoner House of Hope on their Women and Family Emergency Shelter campus on Dowling St. because homeless children were the fastest growing segment of their services. The June Waggoner House of Hope provides supervised services for children from infants to age eighteen in a beautiful, clean, and safe environment.
Stars of 2morrow – Teens at Star of Hope
Launched in September 2006, Stars of 2morrow focuses on the teenage children of women and men enrolled in one of Star of Hope's life-changing family programs. It was created with the intent of providing structured programs that put strong emphasis on education and life skills to enable homeless teens to be better prepared for the challenges and demands that life brings – including those within their own families as many are the children of substance abusing parents. Since its inception the Teen Department staff has developed many programs expressly for teenagers that target education, life skills, self-worth, interpersonal communication and leadership skills.
With the support of Star of Hope, these teenagers are reaching their goals. Each year Star of Hope has been able to increase the number of children attending college.
Pinky’s Place
Pinky’s Place, located at the Star of Hope-Transitional Living Center, offers services to children between the ages of 3 and 12 in three different classrooms licensed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Daily, the children attend Bible studies, a reading program, outdoor time, and a variety of indoor activities including, arts and crafts, circle time, free play time, daily prayer time, computer time, and academic skills time.
The Preschool Classroom offers a year-round full-day program. The School Age classrooms offer an After-School program during the school year and a full-day Summer Program during the summer months. Throughout the year, the Children’s Department closely collaborates with the Houston community to provide the different services for the children.
