What: Spend
the night to raise awareness for the homeless
When: Saturday,
November 15th, 5 p.m. Sunday, November 16th, 7
a.m.
Parking:
Sleepers may park for free in City of Houston Lot C,
located just northeast of the intersection of Memorial
and Houston Avenue . Additional street parking is available
around Sesquicentennial Park and paid facilities are
available directly across the street. Those needing
assistance may be dropped off in a curbside zone in
front of the park.
Noah's Walk:
After Parking, participants will venture down the promenade
for a short, half-mile(10 min) walk, dubbed "Noah's
Walk", after Noah Rattler, the event brain child
who last year walked from Texas to the Pacific Coast
to raise funds for the Homeless
Registration:
From 5-7 pm, Sleepers may Check-in to the event. They
will receive an event packet with their sleeping assignment
and a wristband that must be worn at all times. Sleepers
must present a valid form of picture ID that displays
their age. In addition, if the Sleeper is under the
age of 17 they must be accompanied by an adult or guardian.
All registrants will be asked to sign a Waiver of Release
before entering the event. After 7 pm, Sleepers may
not exit and re-enter the event.
Please check back for information on items that may
be brought into the area.
SleepOut Site:
Individuals and Teams will be assigned to specific areas
to set up their sleeping areas. After participants set
up their personal sleep area, they are invited to dinner
at one of the food tents. After dinner the evening's
program will take place at the front of the commons
area.
Faces of Homelessness
Program: At 7:30 pm, the Faces of Homelessness
Program will begin. It will feature speakers and entertainers
who have overcome their struggles with homelessness.
Lights Out:
Once the program concludes, participants will return
to their sleep sites. "Lights Out" is scheduled
for 11 p.m. and all participants will be asked to maintain
a respectful silence for the remainder of the evening.
Morning Program:
The morning program begins with a wake-up call and light
breakfast. After breakfast, participants will clean-up
their sleep sites and, at the conclusion of the morning
activities, collectively walk back to Lot C.
