Gutter Dance 8 Charity Bowling Event Set for May 5

The Gutter Dance, a charity-bowling event benefiting the J. D. McCarty Center for children with developmental disabilities, is set for Thursday, May 5, at the Sooner Bowling Center in Norman.

Presented once again by the Hal Smith Restaurant Group, Gutter Dance 8 provides a wonderful evening of entertainment and suspense says Greg Gaston, spokesman for the McCarty Center.

"The entertainment comes from bowling, cheering on your favorite team, the most creative bowling team shirt contest and good food," explained Gaston. "Each team of four gets to roll two lines of bowling and there is a prize for the most creative bowling team shirts. That's the good fun. Each of our participating bowlers also gets some great Italian food through the courtesy of Johnny Carino's and that's the good food part."

Dinner tickets are available at the event for $10 per person for those who aren't bowling, but want to come and cheer for their favorite bowling team and just have a good time.

"The suspense part of the evening comes when the top ten individual bowlers get a chance to win a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze in the 7-10 split roll off," said Gaston. "As these bowlers each take their turn trying to pick up the split, the bowling alley gets so quiet you can almost hear a pin drop." Marc Heitz Chevrolet in Norman is sponsoring the 7-10 split roll off.

Gutter Dance participants will be rewarded in several ways. Trophies will be presented to the first, second, third and last place teams. "This event is for everyone," Gaston said, " doesn't matter if you bowl everyday, once-a-week, once-a-year or have never picked up a bowling ball. That's why we present a last place trophy. We want our bowlers to know they are appreciated for their effort."

Creativity counts at the Gutter Dance. A prize will be awarded to the bowling team with the most creative team shirts. Prizes will also be awarded throughout the evening when bowlers make a strike with a color pin in the rack and door prizes will be given out at the end of the evening.

Proceeds from the Gutter Dance 8 will go to the Camp ClapHans scholarship endowment fund, a summer camp project of the McCarty Center. Construction on the camp is under way. It is anticipated that the camp will be open for campers in the summer of 2012.

Bowling team entry fees are $200. Lane sponsorships are available for $100. A team entry and lane sponsorship together is $250. Entry forms are available at the Sooner Bowling Center, 550 24th Avenue, Marc Heitz Chevrolet, 1221 Ed Noble Parkway, Johnny Carino's Italian Restaurant, 970 Ed Noble Parkway in Norman, Mazzio's, 160 12th Avenue SE and 3700 West Robinson Street in Norman, the law office of Blake Virgin, 404 S. Peters in Norman, the dental office of Randall Venk, 601 Stone Well Drive in Norman or by contacting Greg Gaston at 405.307.2807 or ggaston@jdmc.org.
