Keglers Get Ready for Gutter Dance 7

Gutter Dance 7, is a two game charity bowling event presented by the Hal Smith Restaurant Group to benefit the J. D. McCarty Center for children with developmental disabilities, that will be held on Thursday, May 6, at the Sooner Bowling Center, 550 24th Avenue NW, in Norman.

Bowling teams composed of four bowlers each will compete for a myriad of prizes including first, second, third and last place trophies; a prize for the most creative bowling team shirts; prizes for making a strike with a colored pin in the rack; door prize drawings; and the opportunity to win a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt SS from Marc Heitz Chevrolet for picking up a 7-10 split.

"It doesn't matter if you're a league bowler with a high average or have never bowled in you life," explains Uwe von Schamann, director of development for the McCarty Center, "this bowling event is for anyone who likes to have a good time. And it's all for a good cause."

The Gutter Dance 7 is $200 per team. Registration forms for the event may be found at the Sooner Bowling Center and event sponsors Marc Heitz Chevrolet, the RibCrib BBQ & Grill, Mazzio's, Louie's Grill & Bar, Cha Cha's Grille y Cantina, the dental office of Randy Venk and the law office of Blake Virgin, all in Norman.

"Our goal for this year's event is $10,000," said von Schamann. "The money will go into the Camp ClapHans scholarship endowment fund. Camp ClapHans is a summer camp project of the McCarty Center that we anticipate will be open by the summer of 2011. This scholarship fund will help offset the cost of camp tuition for campers," he added.

The Gutter Dance 7 will offer a little something for all bowlers regardless of skill. For the non-bowler there will be an opportunity to improve your score by buying a ringer. For just $10 you can buy a ringer…a local king pin with a very high average…to bowl up to two frames for you.

For the more skilled bowlers, there is the opportunity to participate in the 7-10 split roll off. The top ten individual bowlers for the evening will get one chance to make a 7-10 split. The bowler who can pick up this split will win a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt SS or $15,000 in cash.

The J. D. McCarty Center is Oklahoma's center of excellence in the care and treatment of children with developmental disabilities from birth to age 21. The McCarty Center was founded in 1946, to provide the physical, occupational, speech and language therapy that these children need to reach their highest level of independence and functionality. In the beginning the hospital only treated one diagnosis…cerebral palsy. Today the McCarty Center has treated more than 70 different diagnoses in the developmental disability category.
