Fourth Annual
Christmas on the Corner Set for December 6
Kathy Alexander, secretary
for the Campus Corner Association, has announced
the date for the fourth annual Christmas on
the Corner. The date is Saturday, December 6.
This event will benefit the J. D. McCarty Center
for children with developmental disabilities
in Norman.
"There will be free horse drawn carriage
rides sponsored by MidFirst Bank and free pictures
with Santa Claus," said Alexander. "We
just ask that people make a donation the McCarty
Center." Carriage rides will begin and
end on Buchanan Street between Tulips and Hideaway
Pizza from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Santa Claus
will also be in the same area.
Many of the retailers on campus corner will
be offering free refreshments and hot apple
cider to shoppers during this event.
"Through out the holiday season, campus
corner merchants will be displaying change collection
boxes in their businesses," Alexander said.
"We hope that our customers will place
their spare change in these boxes while they
are shopping. The McCarty Center is a great
local charity deserving of our support."
The J. D. McCarty Center is Oklahoma's center
of excellence in the care and treatment of children
with developmental disabilities. For more than
60-years, the McCarty Center has been providing
physical, occupational, speech and language
therapy that these children need to reach their
highest level of independence and functionality.
When the hospital was first founded it only
treated one diagnosis
cerebral palsy. Today
the hospital has treated more than 70 different
diagnoses in the developmental disability category.
