Camp ClapHans is a project
of the J. D. McCarty Center for children with
developmental disabilities in Norman. This year's
summer day camp is designed to incorporate therapeutic
approaches to the camp activities by the McCarty
Center's speech, occupational and physical therapy
departments. Campers will have an opportunity
to experience a variety of fun activities specifically
chosen to facilitate overall development.
Activities will include
arts and crafts, role-playing, water activities,
scavenger hunt, swimming, horseback riding,
sports, music and games.
Besides the campers, there
will be plenty of fun opportunities for volunteers
to help this camp. Volunteers must be at least
17 years old. Volunteers will be needed from
8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during the camp. For
more information about being a Camp ClapHans

ClapHans volunteer coordinator.
Camp ClapHans is in the
process of transitioning from a summer day camp
to an overnight camp. gh2 Gralla Architects
of Tulsa are in the process of completing design
plans for this phase of Camp ClapHans. The camp
will be built in the southwest corner of the
McCarty Center's 80-acre campus on the shore
of an 18-acre lake. Ground breaking for the
camp is scheduled for sometime this year. The
camp facilities are scheduled to include a mess
hall, camp office and health care facility,
volunteer cabins, camper cabins, an arts and
crafts barn, ropes course, swimming pool, horse
stable and camp fire area.
