Better bridges and roads
Gov. Henry is working to reverse decades of neglect of the state road and bridge system.

When he took office in 2003, he immediately directed state transportation planners to shift all available maintenance funding to the repair of Oklahoma’s aging bridge network. In the years that followed, he also approved legislation to add $170 million to the state’s highway maintenance program each year.

In 2006, Gov. Henry won approval for a key plank of his Road to Progress initiative, a $125 million infusion of funds in an emergency bridge repair program. The governor is also pushing an increase in annual highway appropriations that will pump $2 billion into road maintenance over the next 10 years.
