Two researchers working on project

Welcome to our Researchers page. If you’re an investigator, you can submit a short description of your current research project, identify potential collaborators and connect with industry partners. If you’re a member of industry or the media, you can find experts who can shed light on issues at hand.

Arts & Human Enrichment

Assistant Professor Michelangelo Sabatino, of the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture, is a specialist of 20th-century architecture who has been working for several years on a research project that explores how domestic and public buildings in Italy have influenced North American architecture since the 18th century. Bio-Med Sciences & Engineering

Assistant Professor Xiaojing Yuan, of the College of Technology, heads up the Intelligent Sensor Grid and Informatics lab and is working on research projects in the following areas: intelligent sensor networks; biomedical signal and image processing; spatial temporal analysis based on statistical learning theory; and educational projects for hybrid labs. Learn More

Community Advancement & Education

Associate Professor Patrick Bordnick, of the Graduate College of Social Work, investigates virtual reality programs as tools for assessing and treating addictions and other mental health disorders and conditions. He heads up UH’s Virtual Reality Clinical Research Center and is a consultant for Virtually Better Inc.’s “Virtual Iraq,” a state-of-the-art program designed to provide realistic exposure to combat-related stimuli for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder in veterans. Complex Systems/Space Exploration

Research Assistant Professor Olga Bannova, of the Sasakawa International Center for Space Architecture, conducts research and design studies that address a variety of topics. Examples include: planning analyses for a broad range of space vehicles, habitats, and systems, including advanced spacecraft propulsion options, inflatable hydroponics laboratory and logistic modules, special design influences and requirements for different gravity conditions in space, and habitat concepts for extreme environments on Earth. Energy & Natural Resources

Associate Professor Steven Pennings, of the Department of Biology and Biochemistry, pursues the following research topics: geographic variation in communities; impacts of sea level rise and eutrophication; and annual variation in productivity and composition. His research is done at multiple sites on all three U.S. coasts. Learn More

Associate Professor Eric R. Bittner, of the Department of Chemistry, is doing research in the area of quantum dynamics – primarily focused upon understanding how motions in the condensed phase influence the dynamics of an imbedded quantum mechanical system. Topical areas include: excited state dynamics in conjugated polymers and quantum dissipation and decoherence. Learn More
